Who Holds the Power?
US and the World Team Members: Caroline Allison, Amy Fedele, Chris Selvaggio, Kerry Gallagher
Resource Description:
This is a research project containing background information, instructions, and resources. Students will learn the context of the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893 and take on the role of a visitor. They will explore resources from the perspective they choose and then create a scrapbook of their visit focusing on reflection and analysis of the sights of the fair itself. It is important for student to be aware that what they do not see is just as important as what they do see when perusing the resources.
Classroom Uses/Applications:
Students could use the website as a guide to complete the assignment on their own. This would work best with more advanced students who are able to analyze primary sources independently.
Teacher could actively direct students through the background information and primary and secondary sources. The class could use one of the "Who Am I?" options as a case study.
Students could work in groups to analyze the documents and develop the project, then present them to the rest of the class.
